Connecticut River

Sean Smith was my guide on a trip to the Connecticut River. It was my first time using a guide and I was extremely pleased with the results. I am a novice fly fisherman and was in need of much help at all levels. Sean worked with me as to what to bring for the trip such as the kind of waders and clothing. He also covered safety issues such as whether my boots had felt on the bottom to grip the rocks, that I bring a wading stick to support me in the current, and the correct glasses to use on the river.

Sean’s pre trip process was also impressive. Having me practice my casts out of water, making sure I understood the set up and gear I was going to be using, and above all enjoying the day! His enthusiasm and passion for the sport was obvious. His instruction was clear and easy to follow. The whole day was a pleasure.

Father & Son

My son, Scott, and I first met Sean in June 2003 while fly fishing the trophy section of the Connecticut River south of the dam on the First Connecticut Lake. Sean came in just above us and immediately started catching fish. It was clear to both of us that he truly knew the river and demonstrated great skill.

My son was drawn to Sean and in a short time was taken under his wing. Sean is a great teacher with a calm demeanor and has an incredible passion for fly fishing. He has spent many years in the Connecticut Lakes region and has a vast knowledge of the river. His love of the sport and this area is reflected by his comments on our first encounter. "I look forward to being the first fly fisherman on the river in the Spring and the last to put the river to bed in the Fall. It's where I connect with nature and find inner peace."

With Sean you are in good hands with someone who is truly passionate about his sport...a perfect selection for a memorable fly fishing experience.

Fishing with Sean Smith

Fishing with Sean Smith starts at the beginning. After he gently ascertains your fly-fishing experience, he will put together a rig and ask you to cast a few times. His professional eye will note several ways for you to improve your cast, and he will suggest them as you cast a few more times.

His knowledge of fishing rivers and coastal waterways extends throughout New Hampshire and into Maine. Once you arrive on site Sean has pre-selected the correct flies to use and has an abundant supply available. He has extensive contacts in the fishing guide fraternity, so he researches waters before your trip. He is prepared!

Once one is on the water, Sean will help as much as one desires. I felt I was fairly experienced, and Sean did not hover around me inordinately until I asked questions. He knows his stuff, and I will guarantee that you will have a very positive fishing excursion with him.
